Open Studio

For a few short hours over the 6th of May weekend, I had a lot of fun opening up the studio for a bit of a 'Shop/Come & Say Hi' event. It was so great to see people coming down to check out the space and pick up a few pieces at the same time. And whilst I'm always perfectly happy powering away in my own little studio bubble, it brings me a huge amount of joy to meet up with both new and familiar faces and bring a bit more life into GSC HQ when I can.

Following on from the success of this Open Studio, and taking a few good visitor suggestions on board, I'm now thinking of possibly opening up on a more regular, once-monthly basis.. So watch this space - As soon as I've had a chance to plan some making schedules I'll hopefully be announcing some fun dates!

Studio Move: The beginning..

Halfway through January this year, I took a leap of faith with Grey Suit Clay and moved on up into a big old space just down the road from my little Bloc Studios box.

Located in an old Plate Works, and originally a pewter engraving workshop, this room had beautiful bones but needed a huge amount of work to get it dustbowl ready. February and March were a blur of scrubbing, painting, learning to plasterboard and then scrubbing and painting some more.

My rickety old kiln, Big Blue didn't do too well with the move and had to essentially be rebuilt for the new room (one eye-wateringly expensive part at a time) - Nothing was straightforward..

But four months on, with Big Blue happily firing away and new members joining the studio plant gang weekly, GSC HQ Mark II is starting to feel very much like home and I can't wait to share the progress with you throughout the year.

Hi there!

I've been wanting to add a blog to the site for a while now - A space to share news updates and maybe explain my practices a little every now and then.

The launch of this refreshed website seemed like a good a time as any to reintroduce myself.. So, Hi! I'm Francesca and the link in this post title will take you to a little Meet the Maker interview I did last spring for champions of all things local; Independent Sheffield, where you can read a little more about me and the set up here at Grey Suit Clay.
